The first duty of a soldier is to secure the integrity of the nation’s sovereignty. To fight for the honour of the nation and secure her interest. To serve as a soldier is a big honour. To be able to accomplish this, a soldier is to be equipped to fight to win and remain alive to fight another day.
They sacrifice their lives for the nation’s honour. Their families sacrifice them for the nation. To what gain are their sacrifices?
The nation owe them at least adequate training and equipment. Honour their families and their sacrifices.
Few days ago, some soldiers released a video, shared by Reno Omokri, showing that they are abandoning the war against Boko Haram because they don’t have fighting equipment. They alleged the Boko Haram fighters had better equipment which they can’t match.

Boko Haram has killed a lot of soldiers who get buried without much national honour.
What happened to the “sophisticated” equipment procured by the Goodluck Jonathan administration as showcased by the detained Col. Sambo Dasuki? The former defence chief, now late Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh during his pull out parade alluded that lack of equipment led to the deaths of about 50, 000 people.
“A 2015 investigation by Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), found that more than $2 billion of government funds meant for buying arms to fight Boko Haram had gone missing since 2007″
In a statement, Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said the weapons procured by Jonathan administration were faulty.
By November 2018, about 100 soldiers lost their lives for being ill equipped. The soldiers lamented in a video that trended of how they are being sacrificed in the fight. Many others are running away from the fight.
Col. Sambo Dasuki is in detention since 2015 for allegedly mismanaging the military fund. Who is to blame for non procurement of equipment under the Buhari administration?
The soldiers are dying, the terrorists are claiming towns and nobody has lost his job, yet, $1billion is not realized for the equipment.
Who is playing with the soldiers lives?
